We are the School Counselors at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

Welcome to our corner on the TJES website!

Mrs. Verser is our part-time counselor who works two and 1/2 days at our school.  She will be
teaching lessons and counseling students in pre-K through 1st grade.  Mrs. Kominic is
full-time at Thomas Jefferson Elementary and will focus mainly on the needs of our 2nd
through 5th grade students. Both of us, however, are available for any student and parents,
should the need arise.

 We look forward to working with the children at Thomas Jefferson each year and consider it a privilege to work with such a fine group of young people.  One of the best parts of our job is that we work with the students in so many different ways.

 We visit the children in their classrooms to teach and to do large group activities with the students that convey the Standards for School Counseling Programs in the Public Schools of Virginia adopted by our state board of education in January of 2005.  Our classroom topics include character education, tattling, conflict resolution, tolerance of others, career education, organization skills, self esteem, dealing with bullies and the dangers of substance abuse.

Each of us is also available for individual and/or group counseling for children whose parents want us to see their child on a regular basis.

Mrs. Kominic and Mrs. Verser are coordinators of their respective School Consultation Teams.  The School Consultation Team or SCT is a team of teachers, administrators and parent(s) who work together to find and evaluate successful strategies for individual children who are struggling for academic, social or emotional reasons.
